The duties of the caregiver usually change and increase over a period of time. One of the most difficult aspects of the caregiver role is that the job continues seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

One way to help caregivers get through the day is to set up a care plan and develop a routine.

The caregiver's care plan is very similar to the nurse's plan of care and the hospice plan of care.

About Today's Assisted Living Centers

Assisted living centers are facilities that help and provide a home for people who need some assistance in their daily lives but wish to maintain a measure of independence. These centers serve as a bridge between completely independent living and a nursing home facility. An assisted living center may have many names, but its function is essentially the same: residential care, personal care, adult living facilities, enhanced care, adult home, retirement residence, and so on.
If you are a caregiver you are probably already familiar with the effects of stress. With the upcoming holidays it is almost a sure bet your stress level will go up.

You may start to feel more tired than usual. You may worry more. You may feel like everyone else is piling their stress onto you.

Here are a few things you can do to help lessen your stress level.

Home Safety Tips for Caregivers

As a family caregiver, it is important to safe-proof your home. Falls are the seventh leading cause of death in persons over the age of 65. There are a variety of reasons for falls, such as falls from ladders or scaffolding, falls from slipping, tumbling or tripping.
It is important to know the hazards and then take the necessary precautions. It is important to constantly be alert.
If you are a family caregiver there will come a time when you need a break. It usually comes sooner rather than later.
You may only need help for an hour or two or for a day or two. This is when a respite caregiver will step in.
Respite services cover a wide range.

They may include volunteer services or adult day care for the care-receiver.
In recent months I have met with an increasing number of families trying to figure out how to access long term care for their parents. The challenge for most is that they never for a moment considered that they would have to pay for care; they simply assumed the government would take care of it. This illustrates very clearly the looming long term care problem in the United States.

Advice On Choosing A Care Home

With life expectancy rising every year due to advances in medicine and an increased awareness of what is and isn't good for us the elderly population is increasing year on year and sees no signs of slowing. An increased older population has a knock on effect in many ways and on many levels.

There are economic consequences involving taxes and interest rates and there is also an increased demand for products and services that a younger population does not have to consider.

Understanding Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage was created out of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003. In short, Medicare Advantage was designed to allow private carriers like Anthem Blue Cross, United HealthCare, Humana and others to create health care plans designed for individuals using Original Medicare. The plans would be uniformed to cover what is offered by Original Medicare along with enhanced benefits such as preventive care, dental, vision and even hearing.

Getting The Keys Back

One of the biggest obstacles most families have is getting the keys to the car. This certainly isn't an easy task but one that is often necessary to keep them from hurting themselves as well as others. People sometimes think that they only need to take the keys away if they have dementia. There are many reasons that make a senior unsafe when driving like vision (frontal and side), hearing, their reaction ability, understanding the rules of the road and limitations due to physical impairments.
Caring for the elderly is something we all have to do at some point in our lives. It is important to understand the importance of caring for the elderly and what we can do do slowly get into it. There is one axiom that if your parents don't pass away young in life, you are going to watch them age. Now for the most part, this is a natural and nice part of life because mom and dad can slowly become grandma and grandpa which are nice roles for them after working so hard to raise you.
